Atiku Wins, Defeats Others In Ondo

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has defeated former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, and Muhammad Hayatudeen to emerge as the winner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary election held in Ondo State.

Atiku, according to the result declared by the Electoral Officer, Mr Samuel Ajibola, scored 18,287 votes in the 203 political wards where the election took place, while Amaechi got 6,031 votes.

According to the electoral officer, Hayatudeen polled 837 votes in the state.

Out of the eligible voters in the state, Ajibola said Atiku polled the highest number of votes to defeat both Amaechi and Hayatudeen after which he declared him the winner of the election.

In his reaction to the election results, the Chairman of the ADC in the state, Bahorun Tola Alabere said the party is ready for the 2027 general elections with the emergence of all the candidates for all the positions in the state and the country.

Alabere said the ADC is prepared for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and would showcase the capacity of the party to win the forthcoming elections in the country.

“We have prepared for them, and you can see it yourself now. We are on the ground, and it is left for the people of Ondo State now to decide whether to continue in this abject poverty, whether to continue in the economic hardship, whether to continue the insecurity in the land, and whether to continue with parents not being able to pay school fees for their children.

“We have so many things to campaign with, and I am sure that by the time we are out, the people of Ondo State will listen to us,” he said.

Alabere said the ruling APC tried to decimate the ADC by sponsoring litigation and factional crises within the party.

He said all efforts to ensure that ADC did not sponsor candidates for the 2027 elections have failed.

He said: “They try to decimate us, but you can see that on the day that the INEC announced that they removed the names of Senator David Mark and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola from the INEC portal, over 4000 people registered in Jigawa State.

“We are not bothered about the antics of the opposition. You can imagine when we started, Senator Akinyelure was not with us, but because he saw the light in the ADC, and he sees that if he comes and contests under the platform, he will win. Today is in our midst, and he is the senator we have picked for Ondo Central, and I know that by the grace of God, he will win.

“We are waxing stronger every day, people join us every day, and with the discontentment in the APC. Now I can tell you that so many of their members will vote for us.”
