2027: LP, AA To Back SDP Presidential Candidate

As Party Conducts Primaries

A fresh alliance is brewing ahead of the 2027 Presidential election, following indications that the Labour Party ( LP) and Action Alliance (AA) are perfecting plans to support the Presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Dr Adewale Adebayo.

Saturday Telegraph had earlier gathered that two more political parties have approached the National leadership of the SDP for an alliance in the coming general elections.

Confirming this development, the Anambra State Chairman of the SDP, Prince Chinedu Ekwunife, who spoke shortly after the National and State Assembly primary elections of the party in Awka, said that the parties were present at the Presidential primary election of the party and had indicated interest in backing the party’s flag bearer.

“When we did our convention, we could see the presence of the Labour Party and Action Alliance because they want to make sure that our Presidential candidate, Dr Adeboye Adewale, who is the sole candidate of SDP, and we still have room to adjust our timetable to know if there are other people who want to join the bandwagon of SDP.

“Other parties have signed to work with us to make sure we actualise our dreams towards getting a very credible and courageous candidate that will drive the country to where it is supposed to be because we are far behind where we are today.”

Speaking on the primary elections of the party, Ekwunife noted that the elections were peaceful and transparent, adding that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, was present when the candidates were nominated through the Option A4 direct primary elections.

“INEC officials were present to make sure that what was done was in line with the guidelines of the new Electoral Act.

“They monitored the process and reported that the exercise was the most peaceful and successful primaries they have gone through since the current democratic dispensation.

Speaking on behalf of the nominated candidates and candidate for Awka North and South Federal Constituency, Chief Nonso Okolo stated that he and his fellow candidates are poised to wrestle powers from the ruling APGA in Anambra state, adding that there manifest has to do with youth empowerment and agriculture, and that the challenges of effective health care delivery would be addressed.

“Yes, all of us are poised to deliver the dividends of democracy to our people through focusing on youth empowerment and agriculture, as well as addressing issues that have to do with effective health care delivery”, he said.

The South East zonal Organising Secretary of the SDP, Mr Vincent Atuigwe, said, “The zone is pleased with the outcome of the primary election because we made sure we introduced very credible candidates who will go into the election to challenge the big parties.”

Mr Udoka Onyezubelu, Anambra State Secretary of the SDP, said, “The party’s primary election was successful, peaceful, transparent and credible with a large turnout of people who participated in the exercise,” he said.
