The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (Federal Road Safety Corps), Shehu Mohammed, has condemned in strong terms the armed attack on FRSC personnel during a routine enforcement operation in Abuja.
The incident occurred on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at the RS7.118 Idu Unit Command, when a patrol team stopped a Toyota Carina driver for a suspected traffic violation.
According to the FRSC, the driver initially refused to comply with lawful instructions and later became hostile during document verification.

Despite attempts by officers to de-escalate the situation, the suspect allegedly escalated the confrontation and drew a pistol, firing two shots within the vicinity of the command.
FRSC personnel reportedly subdued and disarmed the attacker without any loss of life, although one marshal sustained minor bruises during the incident.
The suspect was subsequently handed over to the police along with the firearm and the vehicle involved.
Preliminary reports indicated that the suspect is a personnel of the Department of State Services (Department of State Services), and the case has been transferred for further investigation.
The Corps Marshal praised the professionalism and restraint of FRSC officers involved, describing their response as commendable under highly dangerous conditions.
He reiterated that no individual, regardless of rank or agency affiliation, is above the law, stressing that all road users, including security personnel must comply with traffic regulations and respect constituted authority.
The FRSC also called for improved inter-agency cooperation, discipline, and respect among security services to enhance public safety and national security.
