The Executive Secretary, the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, (NCDMB), Engr. Felix Ogbe, has said President Bola Tinubu’s government has taken deliberate steps to restore confidence in the energy sector, attract capital, improve competitiveness, and create an environment where businesses can thrive.
He stated that in the upstream sector, Nigerian companies are playing leading roles in in exploration, production, drilling services, fabrication, engineering, and asset ownership. He added that they have moved from mere participation to leading complex projects with competence and professionalism.
He also said in the midstream, there are growing opportunities in gas gathering, processing, compression, transportation, storage, pipelines, LPG and CNG distribution.
He opined that these areas were central to Nigeria’s gas-based industrialization agenda and offered space for local manufacturing and capacity building. He also opined that in the downstream, there are expanding prospects in refining, product distribution, retail operations, depot infrastructure, lubricants, petrochemicals, and logistics.
According to him, this segment is a strong driver of employment, small and medium enterprises growth, and direct economic impact on households.
He stated that Nigeria’s narrative was shifting from being only a crude oil producer and importer of refined products to one of processing, value addition, and export of finished energy products. He identified the Dangote Refinery as a symbol of this transformation.
