Senate Press Corps Congratulates Orji Kalu Over APC Primary Victory

The Senate Press Corps has congratulated the Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Orji Uzor Kalu, following his landslide victory in the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary election held in Abia North.

In a congratulatory message dated May 19, 2026 and jointly signed by its Chairman, Taiye Odewale, and Secretary, Atekojo Samson Usman, the Senate Press Corps described Kalu’s victory as a reflection of his popularity, acceptability and strong connection with his constituents across the district.

The group noted that the former Senate Chief Whip secured 65,651 votes to defeat his opponent, Philip Nto, who polled 2,103 votes in the primary election conducted across the five local government areas of Abia North Senatorial District.

According to the statement, the overwhelming margin of victory has clearly demonstrated the confidence reposed in Senator Kalu by members of the APC and the people of Abia North ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The entire members of the Senate Press Corps heartily rejoice with you on the crushing defeat inflicted on your opponent in the just concluded APC senatorial primary election in Abia North Senatorial District,” the statement read.

The corps further described Senator Kalu as a “benevolent Distinguished Senator,” expressing optimism about his continued presence in the National Assembly and stating that they were eagerly awaiting his return to the Senate in June 2027.
