George-Kelly Steps Down From Rivers Guber Race

…Backs Party Unity

A governorship aspirant, George-Kelly D.A., on Wednesday withdrew from the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial primary election in Rivers State, citing the need for party unity and loyalty ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Announcing his decision in a statement personally signed on Wednesday, George-Kelly said his decision followed consultations with members of his political team and other stakeholders after a meeting convened by the national leadership of the APC.

The aspirant, who identified himself as a member of the Rivers State Rainbow Coalition for President Bola Tinubu under the leadership of Nyesom Wike, said the stakeholders’ meeting focused on strengthening cohesion and strategic alignment within the party.

According to him, he pledged support for whoever emerges as the APC governorship candidate.

“Following that meeting, and after wide consultations with members of my political team and other critical stakeholders, I have taken the decision, in the overriding interest of party unity and in deference to the supremacy of the party, to withdraw from the forthcoming primaries,” he said.

George-Kelly added that he would continue to support the APC and work towards the success of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party in the 2027 elections.

“Accordingly, I hereby formally announce my withdrawal from the race and pledge my unwavering support, loyalty, and cooperation to whoever emerges as the party’s candidate at the conclusion of the primaries,” he stated.

The governorship aspirant also described leadership, loyalty and respect for constituted authority as principles that have guided his political career.

Quoting Psalm 33:11, he said: “The counsel of the Lord standeth for ever.”

He further urged party members and supporters to remain united and continue working together for the progress of the party and Rivers State.
