Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Adamawa North Senatorial Zone, having been declared unopposed.
Similarly, the former Commissioner for Health, Chief Felix Tangwami, was declared the winner in the party’s Southern Senatorial primaries.
Governor Fintiri secured the APC ticket following a settlement between the incumbent senator, Amos Yohanna, and the party, which agreed that Yohanna would not seek reelection for a second term but would instead step down for Fintiri.
Speculation within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State revealed that Senator Amos Yohanna is pencilled down for the position of the State Deputy Governor, hence his decision to drop his Senatorial ambition.
Chief Felix Tangwami, who until eleven hours ago campaigned as a governorship aspirant, later settled for the Senate and defeated former senator Grace Bent and retired Federal Permanent Secretary, Ismaila Numan, to clinch the party’s ticket.
Meanwhile, the APC suspended the Adamawa Central Senatorial primary election due to the late arrival of electoral materials in parts of the zone.
A statement by the APC spokesman in the state, Victor Dogo, said the party decided to postpone the exercise to ensure fairness across all affected local government areas.
According to him, conducting the election in some areas while others were unable to participate would have undermined the credibility of the process.
He added that a new date for the Adamawa Central Senatorial primary would be announced soon.
However, some stakeholders who commented on the suspension described the decision as being in the best interest of the party.
Others maintained that the postponement would give aspirants another opportunity to engage with delegates and strengthen their campaigns before the rescheduled primary election.
