The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has directed that an apology be issued following the May 12, 2026 incident involving commission personnel and staff of the Uyo University Teaching Hospital (UUTH).
According to a press statement issued by the commission on Monday, the apology is to be extended to Professor Eyo Ekpe and members of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) over the discomfort caused by the incident.
The EFCC boss expressed regret over the development while noting that the wellbeing of Nigerians remains central to the commission’s mandate.

He reiterated that a full investigation into the incident has been ordered, assuring that any officer found to have acted outside established professional standards would face internal disciplinary action.
Olukoyede also emphasized his commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to resolve the issues arising from the incident and prevent a recurrence.
Despite the development, he maintained that the commission would not be deterred from carrying out its anti-corruption mandate across the country.
He further called on the NMA and other professional bodies to continue supporting the EFCC in its efforts to combat economic and financial crimes in Nigeria.
