…Promises Free, Fair Process  

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday, May 16, commenced its primaries in Bayelsa State to elect candidates for the House of Representatives and Senate ahead of the general elections.

Solomon Ogba, Chairman of the APC Electoral Panel for the National and House of Representatives primaries in the state, gave assurances that the exercise would be free, fair, and transparent.

Speaking in Yenagoa on Saturday while announcing the start of the exercise, Ogba expressed satisfaction with the presence of all relevant institutions monitoring the process.

“We are here to conduct the process of selecting our candidates for the House of Representatives and the Senate for the All Progressives Congress in Bayelsa State,” Ogba said.

“I’m happy that all the institutions associated with this exercise are here. The committee has already distributed sensitive materials to all polling units across the state.”

Ogba noted that the Bayelsa APC is adopting direct primaries in line with Section 84, Subsection 2 of the 2026 Electoral Act.

“We have painstakingly selected people of proven integrity to conduct the elections in all wards and federal constituencies. We believe they will discharge this responsibility fairly,” he added.

He appealed for cooperation from stakeholders, “We intend to conduct this exercise very fairly and transparently, and we call on everyone to help us achieve this. We will make it easy for everybody, and every voter will be given a chance to express themselves.”

Ogba also commended the Bayelsa State Government and residents for maintaining peace.

“The atmosphere has been very peaceful, and we commend their efforts,” he said.

Earlier, Bayelsa APC Chairman, Warman Ogoriba, welcomed the electoral panel to the state and assured that the primaries would be credible.

He confirmed that key agencies, including INEC, the Police, and other security outfits, were on the ground to monitor the process.
