Ekiti APC Petitions Yilwatda, Seeks Disqualification Of Fasuyi From Primary

A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, Mr Afuye Idowu, has petitioned the National Chairman of the party, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, calling for the disqualification of Senator Cyril Fasuyi from participating in the forthcoming APC primary election for Ekiti North Senatorial District.

In the petition addressed to the APC National Chairman, Idowu alleged that the senator representing Ekiti North Senatorial District has failed to provide effective representation at the National Assembly and is allegedly not aligned with the ideals of the party’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

According to the petitioner, Senator Fasuyi has not sponsored any landmark legislation or moved significant motions capable of positively impacting the lives of the people of Ekiti North Senatorial District or the country at large since assuming office as a senator.

He further claimed that the lawmaker has not made notable contributions during debates on the floor of the Senate, alleging that the district currently lacks effective representation in the Red Chamber.

Idowu also accused Senator Fasuyi of allegedly violating his fundamental rights following public comments he made in 2025 concerning the performances of some National Assembly members.

He stated that while other legislators reportedly accepted his criticisms in good faith, Senator Fasuyi allegedly took offence and subsequently sponsored acts of harassment and intimidation against him.

The petitioner further alleged that the senator instigated officers of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Ekiti State Police Command to arrest him on July 31, 2025, over what he described as false allegations.

According to him, he was arrested at about 9 p.m. at a private residence without prior invitation by the police and was later arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrate’s Court.

Idowu claimed that he was allegedly pressured to retract his earlier criticisms of the senator as a condition for his release, but declined to do so.

He said he was subsequently remanded in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service for 14 days following an application by the police pending investigation into the allegations against him.

The petitioner, however, stated that the charges against him were eventually withdrawn for lack of evidence and that he was discharged by the court.

He argued that the reforms being implemented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu require lawmakers who are committed to the Renewed Hope Agenda and capable of providing effective legislative support.

Idowu therefore urged the APC leadership to ensure that only competent aspirants emerge as candidates of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, and the Chairman of the APC Senatorial Primary Election Screening Committee were copied.
