The Lagos State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has dismissed the report that it has formed an alliance with other opposition parties.
Speaking at a press briefing on Friday, the Secretary of the party in the state, Chief Sam Okpala and a former Deputy Chairman, Dr Oswald Olatunbosun, said the structure of LP in Lagos is still solid.
It said: “We want to assure everyone that the Labour Party has come to stay. We are not in alliance with any political party. We want the people to own the Labour Party because the greatest office in the land is the office of the citizens.
“We are, therefore, by the same token, saying it loud and clear that the Labour Party remains the best platform, giving what we espouse and represent.
“LP is the only party in Nigeria that is not privately owned. The party belongs to the people. Hence, the biggest party in Nigeria.
“The structure of LP in Lagos is still solid. All various groups and factions in LP Lagos are working together to produce the best candidates that will protect the interests of the people.
“The issue of leadership at the national level is not new in politics, and all hands are on deck to resolve the issue.
“We urge the good people of Lagos state to rise up this time and present people who will represent them well at all levels.
“INEC has demonstrated its readiness to conduct a good election, and we believe there will be continuous transparency and unbiased conduct in all its activities.
“We will present candidates in all 40 houses of assembly seats, 24 houses of representatives, 3 senators, and 1 governorship candidate.
“We urge the people of Lagos state to shun the politics of stomach infrastructure and not do blind followership as we approach the crucial year of 2027.
“We want to admonish our people not to mortgage their future again for the next 4 years by collecting a paltry amount that would not solve the problem, but aggravate it.
“For instance, if you have the same party in power for the past 27 years and are going to 28 years now, and we are still struggling with the same problems, such as traffic congestion, dirty litter on our streets, when governance is no longer rocket science anywhere in the world. No one is asking them to reinvent the wheel.”
