The Obidient Movement has distanced itself from what it described as parallel groups and individuals allegedly operating under names and structures aimed at creating confusion about the identity and leadership of the movement.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the National Coordinator of the movement, Dr Drnusa Tanko, said the movement recognises faction or alternative leadership outside the established structure aligned with former presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Tanko warned members of the public, media organisations, supporters at home and in the diaspora, as well as other stakeholders, to disregard any group operating under derivative or deceptively similar identities, insisting that such groups do not represent the ideals, values, or leadership of the Obidient Movement.
“The Obidient Movement recognises parallel structure, faction, or alternative leadership outside its established and recognised leadership framework aligned with His Excellency, Peter Obi,” the statement said.
According to him, the movement remains people-driven and is founded on the principles of integrity, accountability, justice, and the collective aspiration for a new Nigeria.
He further stated that attempts to misrepresent the movement’s identity or exploit its growing influence for ulterior motives would not derail its mission and engagement with Nigerians across all levels.
Tanko urged members of the movement and supporters nationwide to remain united and focused, while relying only on communications from officially recognised leadership and communication channels of the movement.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Obidient Movement to its vision of a “New Nigeria,” describing the aspiration as “alive, clear, and unwavering.”
