Balami Picks APC Form Ahead Of 2027 Election


The Member representing Askira-Uba/Hawul Federal Constituency in Borno State, Hon. Dr Usman Midala Balami, has picked his Nomination and Expression of Interest forms to recontest on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, purposely to enable him consolidate on the modest achievements recorded under his first tenure.

Recall that Balami, a first-timer, picked his forms at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja on Thursday in the company of several supporters and well-wishers before proceeding to meet and present the forms to Governor Babagana Zulum and other stakeholders from the zone seeking blessings and support.

Speaking shortly after he picked the form, the Lawmaker said, when given the second mandate, the voice of Askira-Uba/Hawul Federal Constituency will continue to resonate on the floor of the National Assembly through purposeful, people-centred legislation.

Balami explained that under his stewardship and good representation, he has so far contributed his quota to development by building classrooms across Askira Kufa, Askira East, Ungwan Husseini Primary School, and Grim Damchoba Primary School across the constituency.

Also, he said, the ICT Centre was established and furnished with computers; this is in addition to the drilling of boreholes across Mussa Ward, Kida Ward, and Kwajjafa Harang Ward, including repairs and rehabilitation of boreholes that were carried out across various wards.

He further said that solar streetlights were provided in all the 25 wards of the constituency, distributed fertilisers to farmers throughout the past three rainy seasons, and organised literacy and capacity-building programs for over 60 youths.

On empowerment, he said, more than 150 people, mostly women and youths, were trained in various skills acquisition programmes, and are economically self-reliant. Medical outreaches were also conducted with the distribution of palliatives during Sallah and Christmas celebrations.

Furthermore, Balami has provided food and non-food items to communities affected by insurgency, paid JAMB fees for students, facilitated employment opportunities, and carried out numerous other interventions too many to mention.

On Bills and motions, he said: “Today, we have sponsored some key bills and motions sponsored, each was carefully designed to address critical needs in Security, education, healthcare, economic empowerment, and technological advancement across our constituency, Borno State and the North-East.

At least 11 bills were scaled through; these include the Federal College of Science and Health Technology (Establishment) Bill, 2023 (HB. 279), which reflects a strong commitment to training the next generation of health and science professionals while expanding access to quality education in Askira-Uba.

“Others are the Federal College of Nursing and Midwifery, Hawul (Establishment) Bill, 2023 (HB. 280), Federal College of Entrepreneurship and Skills Acquisition, Hawul (HB. 1797, 2024).

“Similarly, the Federal College of Fisheries and Apiculture, Askira-Uba (HB. 1798, 2024) is designed to boost agricultural productivity, enhance food security, and unlock economic potential in fisheries and apiculture.

“Lilewise, the Institute of Information and Communications Technology, Azare (HB. 1959, 2024) seeks to equip youths with critical digital skills, positioning the constituency as a hub for innovation and digital growth.

“The Lassa Fever Research Institute, Askira (HB. 1960, 2024) and the proposed Psychotherapeutic and Counselling Research Institute (PCRI Nigeria) underscore a forward-looking approach to addressing mental health challenges through research, therapy, and policy support, among others. He said.

On Motions and Contributions by Hon. Midala Usman Balami, there is a need to prevent killings and deploy urgent security measures in Sabon Gari, Kelle, Dille, Lassa, and Mussa towns in Askira-Uba and Hawul Local Government Areas of Borno State.
Purpose: Address intermittent attacks, killings, and destruction of property; urge security reinforcement.

More so, he added: “Need to address challenges faced by students writing JAMB, WAEC/SSCE in Mussa, Dille, and Lassa communities of Askira-Uba LGA, Borno State. Establishment of a Vocational and Sports Centre in Askira-Uba and Hawul Local Government Areas, Borno State, purposely to promote youth empowerment, skills development, and community engagement through sports and training.

In the same vein, he said, “another motion was on the need for urgent rehabilitation of the Biu–Garkida–Gombi Road
In Askira-Uba/Hawul Federal Constituency, Borno State, aims to improve transportation, connectivity, and economic activity in the region, among other interventions. He noted.

Balami assured his constituents and the good people of Borno that whenever the 2025 and 2026 budget is fully released, more dividends of democracy, such as drilling of boreholes, provision of social infrastructures, agricultural empowerment and other people -oriented projects would be his topmost priority in Askira-Uba/Hawul Federal Constituency.
