ADVAN lauds Ogra’s election to WFA executive committee

The Advertisers Association of Nigeria has hailed the election of its Vice President, Otega Ogra, to the Executive Committee of the World Federation of Advertisers, describing it as a milestone for Nigeria’s advertising and marketing communications industry.

Ogra, who also serves as Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Digital Engagement, Strategy and New Media, was elected during the WFA Global Marketer Week held in Stockholm, Sweden. His election places Nigeria within the highest decision-making structure of the global body for advertisers.

ADVAN said in a statement on Tuesday that the development reflects the growing international recognition of Nigeria’s advertising ecosystem and the increasing influence of national advertiser associations in shaping global industry standards.

The WFA is the leading global body for advertisers, representing more than 150 multinational companies and Fortune 500 brands, as well as national advertiser associations across over 60 countries. Its members account for hundreds of billions of dollars in annual marketing expenditure and play a central role in setting global standards on advertising governance, media transparency, digital regulation and responsible marketing.

The WFA Executive Committee, which Ogra has joined, serves as the organisation’s top governance body. It is responsible for setting strategic direction on key issues, including data governance, platform accountability, sustainability, artificial intelligence and the rapidly evolving digital advertising ecosystem.

According to ADVAN, the newly constituted committee includes senior executives from global brands such as IKEA, Nissan, Diageo, Danone and Tata Group, alongside leaders of major advertiser associations from developed markets.

The association said Ogra’s election comes at a critical time for the global advertising industry, which is undergoing rapid transformation driven by technological disruption, shifting consumer behaviour, and tighter regulatory scrutiny of digital platforms.

It added that his inclusion signals a gradual but steady integration of African markets into global advertising governance structures and highlights the rising contribution of emerging economies to international marketing standards.

“The election of Mr Otega Ogra is not only a personal achievement but also a reflection of the progress Nigeria has made in strengthening its advertising ecosystem and aligning with global best practices,” ADVAN said.

The association noted that the development presents an opportunity for Nigeria to play a more active role in shaping global conversations around advertising standards, digital transformation and ethical marketing practices.

ADVAN reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the growth of Nigeria’s advertising industry and promoting sustained representation of Nigerian professionals in global leadership positions, saying such participation is key to driving innovation, competitiveness and credibility within the sector.
