Group Defends Abbas’ Stewardship, Hails His Performance

A group, Jufalko Alliance for Good Governance, has denied reports that the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, has failed in his responsibilities, saying the presiding officer has excelled in the parliament.

The group made this declaration, in a press statement jointly signed by the Chairman of the group, Hon. Aliyu Salisu Mai Allura, and the Secretary, Barr. M.B. Adam, while reacting to a statement credited to Alhaji Mustapha-Adamu Ubaidullahi, a traditional titleholder in the Zazzau Emirate, that Abbas has performed badly.

The group also denounced the report that Ubaidullahi is a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that “He has since left the ruling party and is now actively working for the opposition, specifically the ADC”.

The statement read, “Let it be known that Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, since he assumed office, has made himself accessible not only to his colleagues in the Green Chamber.

“He has also made it a point of duty to interface with his constituents, directly or indirectly, and has attended to their needs in different ways.

“It is on record that the Speaker responds to messages and answers the phone calls of his constituents, even those walking the streets. In fact, the Speaker, in most cases, returns the missed calls of his constituents.

“Second, Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, being a prince and holder of the title of lyan Zazzau, has set an unprecedented record for the traditional institution in our democratic journey.

“Within a few months of his leadership, he created a standing committee on traditional institutions, which is the first in the history of the House.

“He was also instrumental in the building of more than 10 palaces for traditional rulers. under the Zazzau Emirate, in addition to distributing over 60 brand-new SUVs to all traditional leaders in Kaduna State, besides the ones he distributed to major traditional rulers across the six geopolitical zones.

“Posterity will also be kind to the Speaker for also sponsoring the constitution amendment bill to create a special role for traditional rulers in Nigeria.

“In terms of constituency projects, Speaker Abbas Tajudeen’s footprints in Zaria Federal Constituency, the remaining 22 local government areas of Kaduna State, and the six other states of the North-West are there even for the blind to see.

“In addition, he has executed at least one major project in the North East, South West, South East, and South South.

“Instructively, in Zaria alone, Speaker Abbas has constructed more than 38 roads, while over 10 different institutions of higher learning and skills acquisition centres are being built. They include the new Federal College of Education (FCE), Zaria; National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) Zaria Campus; College of Veterinary Sciences; College of Nursing and Health Sciences; College of Agriculture; Sports Academy; Federal Vocational and Technical Training College; Centre for Management Development; the Women Development Centre; Primary and Secondary School for the Orphans, and Primary and Secondary School for Peoples with Special Needs. He has also ensured the renovation of over 115 primary and secondary schools, among others, in Zaria. He equally constructed ultra-modern markets.

Equally important is the Speaker’s facilitation of gigantic capital projects to the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, and the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), as well as other institutions in Zaria and across the state.

In the area of agriculture, youth, and women’s development, the Speaker has done more than anybody in the history of Kaduna State by establishing skills acquisition institutions and providing the beneficiaries with empowerment materials.

Regarding security, it is on record that Zaria, as of today, is the most secure city in Kaduna State, all thanks to the Speaker’s incredible support for the security agencies. Several police stations were built within the two years, and more are under construction. It is, however, mischievous for anyone to attribute issues of security to the actions or inactions of Mr Speaker.

“Coming to Mr Speaker’s stewardship in the House, the major constitutional mandates of the Legislature are lawmaking, representation, and oversight. Under Speaker Abbas Tajudeen’s watch, the Green Chamber has passed more than 200 bills and over 500 motions in the past two years.

“Similarly, the 360 Members of the House have effectively and efficiently represented the interests of their constituents since their assumption of office in June, 2023. The Speaker has also put in place a mechanism that has strengthened the oversight of the Executive arm by the various Standing Committees of the House. That has yielded fruitful outcomes thus far.

“All the things the Speaker has done for Zaria, Zone 1, Kaduna State, North-West, and Nigeria are in the public domain for all to see. A click on Google will clear anyone’s doubt. Thus, no amount of lies or propaganda will erase these proven records.

“Lastly, Mr Speaker remains resolute to deliver on his mandate and will not be deterred by the empty noises of enemies of progress of the good people of Zaria, Kaduna State, and Nigeria”, the group stated.
