Nollywood actress and head of ROK TV, Mary Njoku has criticised Nigerian companies for having a “Small mindset” that keeps them from competing internationally.
Taking to her Instagram page, the movie director claimed that sectors that ought to be competing internationally are mired in “Nigeria vs. Nigeria” rather than “Nigeria vs. the World.”
According to her, Instead of working together, individuals are preoccupied with competing to be the “Local champ” of a tiny pie.
“Industries that should be competing globally end up stuck in Nigeria vs Nigeria, when it should be Nigeria vs the World. Small mindset.

“We’re not even big yet but instead of building together, we’re busy tearing each other down. Fighting over who becomes the ‘local champ’ of a small ‘pie’. Why?”, she wrote.
According to Njoku, growth depends on shifting focus to excellence and collaborating on larger projects.
She said the main constraint is perspective, not opportunity, noting that some limit room for expansion to maintain individual wins instead of creating collective success.
“If we truly want to grow, we need to shift. Compete on excellence. And where possible, collaborate to create something bigger than ourselves.
“Sometimes the real limitation isn’t the opportunity. It’s the mindset. People see room for expansion, but instead of building something bigger, they shrink it so only they can win.
“Choosing to remain local champions over creating shared success”, she said.
