The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised the Federal Government over what it described as the poor release of funds allocated to the Nigerian Army in the 2025 fiscal year.

In a press statement released by the party’s spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi,  the ADC claimed that out of the N336.76 billion approved for security equipment, only about N16.71 billion which is roughly seven percent has been released, with no disbursement reportedly made for key logistics such as transport, aircraft fuel, and military barracks.

The ADC described the development as disturbing and indefensible, arguing that inadequate funding weakens the military’s capacity to tackle widespread insecurity across the country.

The party linked the issue to recent reports of a mass abduction in Ngoshe, Borno State, where hundreds of women and children were allegedly taken by insurgents believed to be affiliated with Boko Haram.

According to the ADC, the abductors have reportedly demanded a N5 billion ransom and issued a 72-hour ultimatum, raising fears over the safety of the victims.

The party argued that such incidents highlight the consequences of underfunding security agencies, noting that delays in equipment procurement and lack of logistics support could embolden criminal groups.

It also criticised what it described as a mismatch in government priorities, alleging that while the military faces funding challenges, resources have been allocated to other areas of governance.

The ADC maintained that security funding should be treated as a top priority, calling for timely release of budgeted funds to support equipment acquisition, logistics, training, and intelligence operations.

The party further urged the Federal Government, led by President Bola Tinubu, to act swiftly to secure the release of abducted victims and address structural issues affecting the country’s security architecture.
