Terrorists Plan To Hit Abuja Airport

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has allegedly alert‑ ed to possible plans by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (I SWAP) terrorists to attack some critical public infrastructure, including the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

Other targets, according to the Service’s intelligence report are the Kune Custodial Centre in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as well as Military holding facility in Nigeria State.

The internal memo, which is circulating online, reads in part: “The CGC is in receipt of a credible report indicating plans by Boko Haram (BH) and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) to execute series of coordinated at‑ tacks on strategic locations with‑ in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Niger State.

“It is indicated that ISWAP op‑ eratives have already infiltrated the FCT to facilitate the attacks led by Ismail Dan Hajja, identified as the leader of the ISWAP’s Kano Cell.

While the Wawa Military Detention Attack is reportedly being orchestrated by a BH cell led by one Sadiku, in collaboration with elements of Ansaru and Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimeen (JNIM). “Their intention is to release detained terrorists and infliction of significant damage on critical aviation infrastructure.

“An analysis of the report reveals a concerning correlation between the potential targeting of the NAIA and recent large-scale attacks on aviation facilities in Niger Republic, notably in Niamey and Tahoua. “This suggests a possible intent by terrorists to replicate the attack patterns.

“In the light of the above, there is an urgent need to enhance security measures and increase patrol around critical infrastructure, particularly the FCT Command and the NAIA. “You are aslo to strengthen surveillance and protective cov‑ erage around NAIA and other strategic assets within the FCT and its environs.”

As at the time of filing this report, New Telegraph had yet to establish the veracity, or otherwise of the security alert, which bore the office of the Deputy Comptroller-General (Enforcement Investigation & Inspection).
