The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been advised to choose strategy over sentiment as it prepares for the next governorship election, with a warning that the stakes are too high for guesswork.
The AKK Group, in a strongly worded statement signed by Head of the group, Sunday Ademoroti yesterday, said as reforms continue under President Bola Tinubu, “the success or failure of these reforms will largely be determined at the state level,” stressing that governors are now “the engines driving delivery, execution, and real impact.”
Describing Oyo as being at “a defining crossroads,” the group said the APC must decide whether to “repeat familiar political patterns that have previously led to setbacks” or “embrace a more strategic path by presenting a candidate capable of uniting the party and delivering results.”
It warned that, “this election cannot be about noise, popularity, or sentiment alone,” but must instead focus on “capacity, ideas, and the ability to deliver.”
According to the statement, “Oyo State does not suffer from a shortage of politicians; rather, it has lacked coordinated, ideadriven leadership that can translate vision into measurable progress.”
The group argued that to win and govern effectively, the APC must present “a candidate who can unite party factions before the election, compete strongly against the PDP, and deliver tangible development after victory,” noting that “very few can credibly deliver across all three.”
