Three luxury buses belonging to Silver Luxury Transport Company exploded in the early hours of Sunday at Mando Motor Park in Kaduna State.
The incident, which occurred around 3:00 a.m., involved vehicles powered by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), raising fresh concerns about the safety and handling of the technology.
Sources at the motor park said the buses had been parked overnight in preparation for interstate journeys scheduled for later in the day when the explosion happened.
A manager with a logistics firm operating in the area, who spoke anonymously, confirmed that the vehicles were empty at the time.
“Thank God no one was inside the vehicles. They were parked to board passengers this morning,” the source said, adding that the buses were newly acquired.

The source also expressed reservations about the adoption of CNG-powered vehicles in the country.
“These vehicles are using CNG. We are not mature enough to use them,” he added.
Confirming the development, the Nigeria Police Force, through the Kaduna State Police Command, clarified that the explosion was not caused by an explosive device but resulted from a mechanical issue linked to one of the gas-powered buses.
Police spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, stated that preliminary findings indicated the explosion was triggered by overfilling of the vehicle’s gas tank.
Authorities said no casualties were recorded, while the affected vehicles have been evacuated and the area secured.
The police also assured the public that a detailed investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the incident and to prevent a recurrence.
