The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Niger State Chapter, has called on the Federal and State governments to expedite actions that will alleviate the sufferings of the masses and put an end to the incessant insecurity challenges in the state.
In his Easter Message titled: Be Hopeful, Be Resilient, Be Compassionate, the State Chairman of CAN, Most Rev. Dr Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, also urged Christian faithful to use the Easter celebration to express love to the less privileged in the society by sharing gifts to the needy, widows, orphans and all those who are in dire need.
The CAN Chairman, who is also the Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, while saying that Easter is the joyful end of the Lenten season of prayers, fasting and alms giving, added that it is a season of joy, hope and a reminder of God’s love for all (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).
According to Bishop Yohanna, “We urge the Federal and State Governments to do all they can to alleviate the sufferings of the people; to tackle and put an end to the insecurity challenges that have ravaged and bedevilled our land, claimed innocent lives, disrupted farming and even rendered our people homeless”.
He then enjoined everyone to continue to pray for the state, for unity and peaceful coexistence and for God’s guidance upon Leaders especially the state Governor, Umaru Bago.
He said: “Let us pray that God will grant him the grace to pursue with vigour and actualise the ‘New Niger Agenda’. It is our prayer and hope that all projects started will be taken to their logical conclusion”.
Furthermore, Bishop Yohanna, while encouraging everyone, especially Christians, to ensure full participation by coming out en masse to exercise their franchise during the 2027 general elections. urged the State Government to continue to provide an all-inclusive government.
He commended everyone, adding that “let us be living examples to others, through our lives of love, mercy, compassion and self-sacrificing service that the Risen Jesus is living in our hearts”.
