New Plan Expands Women’s Healthcare Access in Nigeria

Health-tech platform Myitura has launched a women-focused healthcare financing solution powered by Mediloan, aimed at improving access to affordable healthcare services for women in Nigeria.

The initiative, unveiled to mark Women’s Month, comes alongside the release of a new white paper titled ‘Closing the Gap: Healthcare Financing for Women in Nigeria,’ which examines structural barriers preventing women from accessing timely medical care.

According to the report, high out-of-pocket expenses, limited insurance coverage, and socio-economic challenges continue to hinder women’s access to healthcare across the country.

It noted that more than 70 per cent of healthcare spending in Nigeria is paid out-of-pocket, a burden that disproportionately affects women, many of whom delay seeking medical attention due to financial and social constraints.

The white paper found that preventable health conditions often worsen because of delayed care, while women are more likely to deprioritise their own health needs in favour of family and household responsibilities. It added that affordable and structured healthcare financing models could significantly improve health outcomes through early detection and preventive care.

“When women can afford to take care of their health early, we do not just save lives; we strengthen families, communities, and the economy,” the Chief of Staff at Myitura, Chialuka Kelechi, stated.

As part of its response to the identified gaps, Myitura introduced affordable women-focused health packages starting at N58,180. The packages, powered by Mediloan, are designed to encourage preventive healthcare and early diagnosis.

The offering provides access to a range of medical tests and screenings, including blood sugar testing, urinalysis, electrolyte assessment, urea and creatinine tests, Pap smear screening, HIV I and II rapid tests, and hepatitis B and C screenings, as well as abdominopelvic ultrasound services. Users will also receive ongoing support through the Myitura digital platform.

Women can access the packages by downloading the Myitura mobile application, which the company said is designed to simplify healthcare access through financing, technology, and preventive care solutions.

Myitura said the initiative aligns with its broader mission to expand healthcare access in Nigeria by leveraging digital tools and innovative financing models to reduce barriers to essential medical services.
