…Demands Tough Action on Killings
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his visit to Plateau State following the recent killings in Angwan Rukuba, describing it as a strong demonstration of compassion, leadership, and national solidarity.
New Telegraph had earlier reported that President Tinubu visited the state to commiserate with the government and people over the deadly attack in Jos North Local Government Area, where several innocent residents were killed.
Yilwatda, in a statement from his media aide, Abimbola Tooki, in Abuja, received the President alongside Governor Caleb Mutfwang and other stakeholders, just as he condemned the killings in the strongest terms, describing the attack as “inhuman, cowardly, and reprehensible.”
“The continued shedding of innocent blood in Plateau is not only unacceptable but a national tragedy that must no longer be treated with routine outrage,” he said.
The APC chairman stressed that the time had come for decisive, coordinated, and result-oriented actions to end the recurring violence in the state.
He called on community leaders to be more vigilant, noting that those responsible for the attacks are often not outsiders but criminal elements exploiting local vulnerabilities.
“These perpetrators are not ghosts. They must be identified, exposed, apprehended, and made to face the full wrath of the law,” Yilwatda stated.
He also urged security agencies to overhaul their strategies, advocating the deployment of modern, intelligence-driven technology such as drones, surveillance systems, and artificial intelligence tools to combat increasingly sophisticated criminal networks.
“The era demands smarter, faster, and more sophisticated security responses driven by technology, intelligence, precision, and accountability,” he added.
Yilwatda warned that persistent insecurity poses grave economic consequences for Plateau State, noting that the state’s tourism potential, agricultural strength, and investment prospects remain threatened by continued violence.
“No economy can thrive where fear reigns, and no society can prosper where citizens live under the shadow of insecurity,” he said.
He further called for a whole-of-society approach, urging traditional rulers, religious leaders, political actors, and community groups to work together to restore peace and stability.
As part of the visit, President Tinubu, alongside Yilwatda, Governor Mutfwang, and other leaders, visited families of victims of the Angwan Rukuba attack, offering condolences and reassurance.
The APC noted that the President’s visit goes beyond symbolism, signalling the Federal Government’s commitment to ending violent attacks and restoring lasting peace in Plateau State.
“The blood of innocent men, women, and children cries out for justice, and the nation must answer with resolve,” he said.
Reaffirming its stance, he declared that the lives of Plateau citizens are “sacred and non-negotiable,” insisting that those responsible for the killings must be brought to justice.
“Plateau deserves peace. Plateau deserves healing. Plateau deserves protection. And above all, Plateau must never be allowed to bleed like this again.”
