Ogun Guber Race Not By Mere Aspiration

……Backs Olamilekan Adeola for APC Consensus

A former Acting Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Kayode Oladele, has said that emerging as Governor of Ogun State is not a matter of mere ambition but a structured process guided by party rules, popularity, and democratic legitimacy.

Oladele made this known in a statement issued on Thursday while receiving members of the Ogun West for Yayi Political Action Movement (OWYPAM), led by Mr Sunday Odunaro, emphasising that the All Progressives Congress (APC) operates a well-defined internal mechanism for selecting its candidates.

He noted that the party’s governorship race is both procedural and popularity-driven, stressing that the APC, as a progressive platform, adheres strictly to laid-down rules recognised by law.

“Becoming governor is not a matter of mere aspiration but a process guided by party rules, popularity, and democratic legitimacy,” Oladele said.

The former lawmaker added that courts have consistently refrained from вмешing in the internal affairs of political parties, particularly in matters concerning candidate nomination.

“At this stage of party primaries, the leadership of the party has the final say on how its candidates will emerge in line with the Electoral Act,” he stated.

Oladele explained that from ward congresses to the national convention, the APC favours a consensus approach, urging aspirants to respect the party’s established processes.

He commended the group for mobilising support for Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, whom he said is being widely projected as a leading contender for the party’s governorship ticket in Ogun State.

“The support base of Senator Yayi has grown significantly across Ogun State. He may become the first candidate to enjoy massive non-partisan support and possibly record the highest votes in any governorship election in the state,” Oladele said.

According to him, Yayi’s popularity has extended beyond Ogun West to other senatorial districts, urging OWYPAM to broaden its mobilisation efforts statewide.

Oladele further advised the group to evolve into a broad-based coalition accommodating supporters across party lines, stressing the importance of inclusiveness ahead of the 2027 elections.

He also underscored the need for unity and discipline within the APC, noting that adherence to party decisions would be critical to electoral success.

The visit formed part of activities marking the Easter celebrations, with the group reaffirming its commitment to the emergence of Senator Adeola as governor in 2027.
