Plateau State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, yesterday wept during a visit to Angwan Rukuba in Jos North, where a recent attack left at least 28 persons dead.
The governor, who visited the Gari Ya Waye community, described the killings as heartbreaking and vowed that those responsible would be brought to justice.
Mutfwang said the state government would provide a befitting burial for the victims and cover medical expenses of those injured. He also disclosed that some suspects had been arrested, including individuals accused of making threats before the incident.
He called on traditional rulers, religious leaders and other stakeholders to work with the government to address insecurity in the state.
“We must work together to end this cycle of violence,” he said. The Plateau Youth Council Zonal Coordinator, Samson Chiroma, said 26 bodies were recovered at the scene, while two others died in hospital.
Chiroma alleged that threats had circulated on social media before the attack and urged authorities to investigate and prosecute those involved.
Similarly, the state Chairman of the council, Panan Gongden Dapar, called for urgent government intervention, noting that efforts were ongoing to prevent reprisals.
