Fasehun Petitions IGP Over Ondo Land Ownership Crisis

A businessman, Olufemi Fasehun, has submitted a petition to the Inspector-General of Police, the Police Service Commission, and the Attorney-General of the Federation regarding a land ownership dispute in Ondo city.

In a statement, it was noted that the businessman claimed that a parcel of land co-owned by himself, Orobola Fasehun, and the late Dr Frederick Fasehun, founder of the Oodua People’s Congress, has been encroached upon by individuals he identified as Adewunmi Fasehun, Felix Fasehun, and Clara Ogunsanmi, also known as “Iya Eta”.

It stated, “In his petition, Fasehun alleged that portions of the land were unlawfully accessed, resulting in the destruction of economic trees, including palm trees. He also expressed concern that the disputed property may have been sold under contested ownership claims.

He cautioned the public to exercise due diligence in land transactions involving the property, emphasising that the matter is the subject of ongoing investigation.

“In addition, Fasehun raised concerns over what he perceives as interference in the investigation by certain police officers reportedly affiliated with Zone 17 of the Nigeria Police Force in Akure. He mentioned DCP Sunny Dangana, CSP Kayode, and the OC Monitoring team, expressing concern that the handling of the case may be compromised.

“According to him, initial investigative efforts by the Ondo State Commissioner of Police were reportedly stalled after the matter was redirected to the Zone 17 command. He urged IGP Kayode Egbetokun to ensure the case is thoroughly investigated without bias and called on the newly appointed AIG to uphold transparency and professionalism within the zone.”

According to the statement, Fasehun stated that he believed the case represented broader concerns about property rights and justice in the state and urged both the authorities and the public to treat the matter with the seriousness it deserves.

Meanwhile, a High Court sitting in Ondo has ordered all parties in the land dispute to maintain the status quo ante pending the resolution of the case.

The statement revealed, “The order was given by Hon. Justice J.O. Abe of a High Court in Ondo State during proceedings in Suit No: HCOD/33/CIV/202. The case, filed by Mr Olufemi Olusegun Omoola Fasehun and others, pits them against Adewumi Fasehun, Felix Fasehun, Mrs Clara Ogunsanmi and others over the ownership and control of a parcel of land in Ondo City.

The statement further read, “While the claimants and their legal counsel, A.Y. Aliyu was present in court, the defendants were absent. The court adjourned the case to July 2, 2025, for mention and ordered that hearing notices be served on the absent parties. In the meantime, Justice Abe directed that no party should take any action on the disputed property, effectively preserving the current state of affairs until the case is determined. Separately, in connection to the same dispute, one of the claimants, Mr Olufemi Fasehun, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, as well as the Police Service Commission and the Attorney General of the Federation, alleging interference and misconduct by some officers handling the case.”

As of the time of this report, the Ondo State Police Command has not released an official statement regarding the petition or the allegations.

All efforts by our correspondent to reach the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Odunlami Ibukun, before filing this story proved abortive.
