The Vice Chancellor of McPherson University, Alapako, Ogun State, Prof Francis Igbasan, has charged the new executive members of the university’s cooperative society to embrace financial integrity and fairness in their dealings.
Igbasan disclosed this during the Annual General Meeting of the association held at the university’s multipurpose hall on Friday. The association had earlier elected Ehi Emhonyon in an election held at the university’s CONAS building.
Emhonyon pulled 107 votes to defeat Taiwo Olanipekun, who pulled 38 votes to secure the second position and Kayode Akinola with 8 votes coming 3rd position. Addressing the executive, Igbasan stressed that adopting financial integrity is crucial to the success of the cooperative society
He said, “I want to encourage the new executive that they have a lot to do to sustain this organisation. There are many opportunities that this executive can adopt to improve their finances for the betterment of the members.
“I want you to uphold financial discipline and integrity in your dealings and be fair to every member. Don’t make it my friends-only affairs. Don’t try to use the finances of the members for personal use.”
The VC added that the university would continue to support the cooperative in every way necessary while charging them to embrace innovations.
In his address, Emhonyon assured the members of his commitment to fairness and accountability, stressing that he would work on the five pillars of his agenda.
“Leadership is not an easy task, but I have taken this responsibility, and I can assure you that I am ready for the task. I will be as fair as possible in everything that I do.
“I have five pillars which are all well thought out. Among these pillars included facilitating a food bank within the university’s premises for easy accessibility to members of staff. I will also ensure that the cooperative’s block industry begins operation at its highest capital,” Emhonyon
He appreciated the support of the members for electing him as the president.
In her goodwill message, the Obafemi Owode Zonal Director of the Ogun State Ministry of Community Development and Cooperative Society, Folasade Adesina, who monitored the election process, commended the conduct of the electorate.
She urged them on the need to review some of the association’s bylaws to conform with the state’s best practices.
