The 2025 International Children’s Day was marked with colorful celebrations in Babura Local Government Area, led by the Wife of the Jigawa State Governor, Hajiya Amina Umar Namadi.
The event was filled with vibrant festivities, academic competitions, and the distribution of essential educational materials, highlighting the state’s commitment to nurturing the next generation.
Organized by the Office of the Special Assistant to the Governor on Universal Basic Education, Comrade Ali Mati Ali, the event brought together students, teachers, local officials, and community leaders for a day of inspiration and empowerment.
According to a statement issued by Suleiman Dauda Babura, Information Officer for Babura Local Government, more than 1,000 students received school uniforms, writing materials, and other educational supplies as part of the support initiative aimed at improving learning outcomes and reducing the burden on families.
A key highlight of the celebration was a Spelling Bee competition, designed to foster academic excellence and build student confidence. Prizes and awards were presented to top-performing pupils, reinforcing the importance of dedication and scholarship.
In her keynote address, Hajiya Amina Umar Namadi commended the enthusiasm of the participating students and praised the organizers for their impactful efforts. She emphasized the vital role of education in child development and reiterated the state government’s dedication to child welfare.
“Children are the pride of our society and the future leaders of our state and nation,” she said. “It is our collective duty to invest in their growth through quality education, encouragement, and opportunity.”
Special Adviser to the Governor on Basic Education, Comrade Ali Mati Ali, echoed these sentiments in his remarks. He noted that Children’s Day serves as a powerful reminder of the need to prioritize the rights and well-being of every child, particularly in the area of education.
He expressed appreciation to Governor Mallam Umar A. Namadi, FCA, for his unwavering commitment to educational development, and acknowledged the support of the First Lady, the Chairman of Babura Local Government, and all stakeholders who contributed to the event’s success.
Also addressing the gathering, Honourable Hamisu Muhammad Garu, Chairman of Babura Local Government, announced the launch of a new local initiative aimed at addressing the issue of out-of-school children. The program, he explained, involves the distribution of learning materials, school uniforms, and backpacks to encourage school attendance.
He reaffirmed the local government’s alignment with the state’s educational reform agenda and pledged continued support for policies that enhance learning opportunities for all children.
The event concluded with an award ceremony celebrating schools and students who excelled in various competitions. The celebration left a lasting impact on attendees and underscored the critical role of education in securing a brighter future for the children of Jigawa State.
