Nigeria deepens partnership with China on industrialisation

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the partnership with China, saying the collaboration will play a vital role in accelerating Nigeria’s industrialisation and economic transformation.

According to a statement, President Bola Tinubu on Monday assured of the country’s investment relationship while receiving the Director-General and Global Liaison of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, Joseph Tegbe, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Tinubu said his administration is committed to leveraging Nigeria’s partnership with China to accelerate industrialisation and economic transformation. He described the NCSP as “a key pillar of Nigeria’s foreign and economic policy,” especially in trade, infrastructure, energy, and human capital development.

During the meeting, Tegbe briefed the President on the progress of the comprehensive strategic partnership agreement between Nigeria and China, which was jointly signed by President Tinubu and President Xi Jinping of China.

The NCSP boss stated that the partnership has made “significant progress” in engagements with major Chinese government officials and investors, targeting sectors such as infrastructure, technology, manufacturing, agriculture, education, healthcare, and mineral development.

“We have been working to attract targeted investments into critical sectors of Nigeria’s economy,” he noted.

The President commended Tegbe and the NCSP team for aligning international cooperation with Nigeria’s development goals. He expressed confidence in Tegbe’s leadership.

Tinubu further charged the NCSP to fast-track the execution of key projects, adding that Nigeria must begin to “deliver real and measurable benefits to its people” through foreign partnerships.
