The NNPC Limited/FIRST Exploration & Petroleum Development Company Joint Venture, in collaboration with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, has concluded a teacher training workshop for an education technology donation programme aimed at enhancing digital education in the Niger Delta.

A statement by First E&P disclosed that the training, held at the NCDMB Complex in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, equipped 180 teachers from six oil-producing states – Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Abia, and Imo – with the skills to effectively use K-YAN all-in-one digital teaching and learning devices.

The K-YAN device is an all-in-one multimedia teaching tool, pre-loaded with content from years one to 12 and designed to support digital classroom learning.

“Each participating school received two K-YAN devices and accompanying solar power solutions, bringing the total number of devices distributed in this phase of the programme to 200,” the statement read partly.

It added that this initiative builds on the success of the first phase conducted in 2023, during which 100 K-YAN devices were distributed to secondary schools.

The programme is part of the JV’s broader commitment to advancing education in its host communities, with the goal of strengthening teaching capacity and improving learning outcomes through technology-driven solutions.

Speaking at the event, Executive Director of Corporate Services at FIRST E&P, Emmanuel Etomi, represented by the Nigerian Content Officer at FIRST E&P, Nkem Aghadiuno, reaffirmed the company’s dedication to educational advancement in the region.

He said, “This programme is about equipping today’s students – our future leaders – with the tools they need to compete in a rapidly evolving world. By integrating the K-YAN technology into classrooms, we’re helping to bring education to life and improve learning outcomes.

“This second phase of the initiative reinforces our long-term commitment to enhancing education in our host communities through technology-enabled teaching.”

In his remarks, the General Manager of Capacity Building at NCDMB, Mr Timbiri Augustine, praised the initiative, stating that it aligns closely with the board’s mission.

He added, “The training, organised by FIRST E&P in partnership with NCDMB, is in alignment with our mandate to drive human capital development. The goal is to equip teachers to better prepare students, especially in STEM education, which is essential for participation in the modern-day oil and gas industry.

“We remain committed to partnering with organisations like FIRST E&P to build capacities that support the long-term growth of the sector.”

Sharing her experience, Blessing Unuafe, a physics teacher from SBSS Community Secondary School, Rivers State, expressed appreciation for the initiative, saying, “This has been a truly rewarding experience. Before now, I never imagined I would have the opportunity to learn how to use this kind of technology. The K-YAN device will not only make my teaching easier, but it will also make learning more engaging for my students. I believe it will spark their curiosity and enthusiasm in the classroom.”

The statement concluded that through this initiative, the NNPC/FIRST E&P JV continues to demonstrate its commitment to sustainable development and educational advancement in its host communities.
