Zamfara SDP Declares Maibulawus Gubernatorial Candidate


The Social Democratic Party (SDP), Zamfara State chapter has declared Hamza Musa Maibulawus as the unopposed winner of the gubernatorial primary election conducted in the state, thereby becoming the sole candidate to contest for the governorship seat in the 2027 elections.

Making the declaration at the SDP headquarters in Gusau on Tuesday, the Electoral Officer, who also doubles as Returning Officer, Bello Hussaini Gusau, said the election was conducted in full compliance with the party constitution, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines, and the Electoral Act.

Hussaini Gusau further stated that although the successful aspirant was unopposed, the national leadership of the SDP directed that the primary election must still hold. According to him, the exercise was duly observed across the 147 wards, 14 local government areas, and at the state level, leading to the emergence of the winner.

According to the results presented by the Electoral Officer, Hamza Musa Maibulawus emerged winner with a total of 36,556 votes cast across the 14 Local Government Areas of Zamfara State, becoming the party’s flag bearer for the 2027 governorship race on the platform of the SDP.

“I, Bello Hussaini Gusau, Chairman of the Electoral Committee for the Zamfara State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), by the powers vested in me by the national leadership of the party, hereby declare that Hamza Musa Maibulawus, having satisfied all requirements of the law as provided by the constitution of the SDP and scored the highest number of votes in the primary election, is hereby returned and declared the winner,” Hussaini Gusau declared.
