The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, said he was not surprised that the incumbent Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara suddenly pulled out from the gubernatorial Primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC), at the stage he did.

Wike said that Governor Fubara didn’t show any sense of ‘gentlemanship’ after he agreed not to seek re-election as a basis for the state Assembly members to drop the proposed impeachment.

According to the Minister, Fubara not only disobeyed President Tinubu who had intervened in the Rivers crisis, but also proved that he can’t abide by any agreement.

The Minister, who disclosed this on Monday in Abuja after inspecting some projects lined up for President Bola Tinubu’s third anniversary, also said that Hon. Kingsley Chinda, the former member of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) and minority of the House of Representative, who emerged the gubernatorial flag bearer of the ruling All Progressives Congress in Rivers State is a “ good product that markets itself.”

Wike noted that Chinda’s experience and capacity for leadership would have been responsible for the APC choosing him over other aspirants.

He said, “ I’m not surprised that the governor withdrew. In the first place, he ought not to have collected the form, because the agreement was reached that the impeachment should be dropped and he should also not talk about a second tenure.

“And so for me, I’m not surprised that he has to withdraw at that stage. But with collecting form first, he didn’t show signs of gentlemanly behaviour. He didn’t show that sign and that was not expected.

“We thought that Mr President had been intervening severally and pleading with the legislature not to continue with impeachment but what it is, he has withdrawn and somebody has emerged as a government candidate for the APC.

“A good product markets itself. Everybody knows that Kingsley Chinda is the material. He’s quite experienced. He has worked with the executive, and now in the legislature, you can hear his voice when he was the minority leader of the PDP. I’m sure that he must have been approached by the ruling All Progressive Congress to join them and then get the ticket.”
