Sokoto PDP Dismisses Alleged Wike-led Faction Suspension

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Sokoto State Chapter, has declared that the alleged suspension by the Wike-led faction of the party’s executive members is null and void.

The executives also said they are considering taking action, including legal options, to challenge the obnoxious and unconstitutional removal.

The state Chairman of the party, Alhaji Muhammadu Bello Goronyo, made this known on Wednesday in Sokoto.

He said, “A political party is an institution that is governed by law. We were duly elected, and we have not finished serving our four-year tenure; we have not done anything that would warrant our alleged suspension.

“We can only be removed by a court of law. We were elected in October 2024, and our tenure will end in October 2028.”

According to the Chairman, nobody can therefore remove them as leaders of a political party in Sokoto State.

Alhaji Muhammadu Bello Goronyo also stated that he only saw their suspension on social media, which claimed a caretaker committee had been formed for the state.

He added, “But as far as we are concerned, we are not deterred. We were duly elected, and we are still running our mandate.

“As law-abiding citizens, we will meet and take any action that is in alignment with the laws of the country.”

It could be recalled that the Wike-led faction of the PDP had purportedly dissolved the Sokoto State Executive Committee of the party and subsequently set up a caretaker committee.

The caretaker committee has Hon. Hayatu Tafiya as Chairman and Alhaji Ahmed S. Pawa as Secretary.

The letter that directed the dissolution of the executives and the appointment of the caretaker committee was dated April 27, 2026, and signed by Hon. Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, National Publicity Secretary.
