The Sokoto State Executive Council has approved multiple contracts for road rehabilitation, airport expansion, renovation of public facilities, and the printing of official materials as part of ongoing development efforts across the state.
The approvals were announced after the council meeting held on Wednesday. Commissioners briefed journalists on the cabinet’s decisions.
The Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Engr. Nasiru Dantsoho said the council approved the rehabilitation of 36 newly developed roads within the Sokoto metropolis at a cost of ₦2.2 billion.
He also disclosed that the council approved additional works on the ongoing construction of the Sultan Abubakar International Airport protocol terminal. The extra works, recommended by consultants, were approved at ₦884.6 million.
Dantsoho added that the council approved the construction of a livestock services centre at the airport for ₦398.6 million.
Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Engr. Mustapha Kofar Marke said the council approved a full renovation of the National Youth Service Corps orientation camp in Wamakko. The camp, built over a year ago, has not been renovated since.
Under Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s leadership, the council approved the renovation of all camp structures, including hostels, bathrooms, halls, offices, and other buildings. The project is valued at ₦1.079 billion.
Kofar Marke also said the council approved the annual printing of official calendars and diaries for government use, at ₦67.9 million and ₦71.2 million, respectively.
Commissioner for Finance, Muhammad Shagari Jabi, said the council approved financial arrangements to support infrastructure delivery and improve budget performance.
The measures are aimed at completing ongoing projects and strengthening budget implementation.
Jabi also announced approval for the renovation of the Sokoto International Conference Centre at ₦733.2 million.
He said the renovation was necessary due to damage from exposure and because the facility is regularly used for national and international events.
