Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has expressed frustration over Michael Olise’s decision to represent France instead of Nigeria.
Olise, who was born in England, was eligible to play for four nations: Nigeria through his father, Algeria through his mother, as well as France, the country he ultimately chose to commit his international future to.
Despite strong efforts from the Nigeria Football Federation to secure his allegiance, the talented winger remained committed to France.
The Bayern Munich star has been in outstanding form this season, emerging as one of the most impressive performers globally and closing in on Lionel Messi’s single-season assist record.

Speaking on his podcast Global Football Insights with Oliseh, former Nigeria captain Sunday Oliseh did not hide his disappointment.
“When I see Michael Olise play, it makes me angry,” he said. “He shouldn’t be wearing the French jersey; he should be wearing Nigeria’s green-white-green.”

Oliseh also addressed the confusion surrounding their shared surname. “People even sent me messages asking why I sabotaged us, saying, ‘Your son chose France.’ He’s not my son, and his ‘Olise’ doesn’t even have an ‘h’ at the end,” he clarified.
Despite his frustration over the winger’s international choice, Oliseh was full of admiration for his talent, admitting his view of the player has evolved significantly.
“When he was doing well at Crystal Palace, I thought he was good but maybe missing something,” he said. “But now at Bayern, I believe he could even contend for the Ballon d’Or one day, he’s that good.”
He added that defenders now struggle to cope with Olise’s quality, often resorting to fouls and attempts to provoke him, while the winger remains composed.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has even drawn comparisons between Olise and Kevin De Bruyne following his standout performances this season.
