The Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon Usman Kumo, has emerged unopposed as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Akko Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Kumo was declared the winner at the party’s primary election held at Kumo East Ward, securing a total of 238 votes during the exercise.
Party officials described the primary election as peaceful and transparent, noting that Kumo’s unopposed emergence reflected the confidence reposed in him by APC stakeholders and delegates in the constituency.
Speaking shortly after his declaration, Kumo expressed appreciation to party members, delegates and supporters for the renewed mandate and pledged to continue delivering effective representation and people-oriented projects to his constituency.
He also called for unity within the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging members to work collectively for the party’s success in Gombe State and across the country.
His candidature comes weeks after he stepped down from the 2027 governorship contest in Gombe state and endorsed the APC consensus candidate, Dr Jamilu Gwamna, in what he described as respect for party supremacy and internal democratic processes.
Kumo, who was considered one of the leading aspirants in the APC, said his decision to withdraw from the governorship race followed consultations with party leaders and stakeholders aimed at preserving unity within the party ahead of the elections.
On the floor of the House, Kumo has remained one of the prominent voices in the 10th Assembly, particularly in his role as Chief Whip, where he coordinates legislative business and party discipline within the chamber.
