Police Foil Coordinated Attack, Arrest Two Suspects

… Three Recover AK-47 Rifles

The Kwara State Police Command has foiled what it described as a coordinated criminal attack on the State by a kidnapping syndicate, arresting two suspects and recovering three AK-47 rifles, magazines and live ammunition within the capital city of Ilorin.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, in a statement issued on Saturday, said the operation was carried out on May 5, 2026, at about 7:30 pm, following credible intelligence and sustained surveillance by operatives of the Intelligence Response Team attached to the Command, in line with the intelligence-led policing directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu.

According to the PPRO, the suspects, identified as Adamu Ibrahim, 30, and Sani Musa, 29, were tracked and arrested after weeks of intelligence gathering on the activities of the suspected gang.

Preliminary investigations, she added, indicated that the suspects allegedly attempted to conceal their weapons by handing them over to a female accomplice for movement to an agreed location where the planned operation was to be carried out.

She further revealed that during interrogation, the suspects led operatives to a hideout where three AK-47 rifles, five magazines, and 143 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition were recovered.

Findings, she stated, showed that the suspects and other members of the syndicate were planning a coordinated attack, moving in small groups towards a convergence point before the operation was disrupted.

Speaking further on the development, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi said the success of the operation was a reflection of the Command’s proactive strategy against violent crime.

“This breakthrough is a result of sustained surveillance, credible intelligence and the commitment of our operatives to ensure that criminal elements have no safe haven within Kwara State,” she said.

She added that the suspects have already confessed to being part of a kidnapping syndicate operating within and around the state, and are currently assisting investigators with useful information to track down other fleeing members of the gang.

The police assured residents that efforts are ongoing to dismantle the wider network and prevent further planned attacks, noting that all suspects will be charged in court upon conclusion of investigations.

The Kwara State Police Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining public safety, urging residents to continue providing timely information to security agencies.
