Plateau: I’ll Complete Mutfwang’s 2nd Tenure


The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Plateau State Sunday Garba Biggs, has promised to dislodge incumbent Governor Caleb Mutfwang and complete his second term.

This is as he even said it is to adhere to the state’s zoning arrangements, which would see power shift to the Northern zone in 2031.

In his acceptance after being affirmed as the party’s candidate in Jos on Thursday, Biggs said that the affirmation was not personal, but a triumph of unity, dialogue, and shared purpose, signalling the party’s readiness for leadership.

He pledged to serve the state with integrity, fairness, compassion, and accountability.

While expressing gratitude to. The elders stakeholders and members and the entire leadership of the party for a transparent and inclusive process, he said that his mission is to build a peaceful, prosperous, united, and inclusive Plateau

Biggs said, “I accept my nomination with humility and acknowledge enormous challenges ahead. This affirmation is a triumph of unity and shared purpose:

“As a respecter of the principle of zoning, I promise to serve only one term and pass the baton to the next zone.”

He acknowledged significant challenges facing Plateau State, including security, unemployment, economic hardship, and infrastructure deficits.

Biggs also promised to place strong emphasis on creating opportunities for the youths, , women’s empowerment, support for farmers and businesses, improved education and healthcare, and strengthened infrastructure.

He said that he will restore the state to PDP, adding that “Plateau is PDP and PDP is Plateau

The governorship candidate urged citizens and supporters to embrace their common heritage, work together, remain peaceful and focused, and mobilise for the journey ahead.

The state Chairman of the party Hon. Raymond Dabo, said that the party carefully made the right choice, stressing the process was rancour-free unlike what was witnessed in other parties.

He reiterated the determination of the party to take over the state in 2027.

Speaking while handing over the flag to the candidate, the Electoral Officer Barr. Mark Jacobs, said that the candidate was chosen through consensus across all local government executives and party members.

Jacobs contrasted the party’s selection process to that of others, “Where membership numbers and presidential candidate figures are outrageous and fake,” emphasising the party’s focus on “real human beings and real figures.”

He described the defection of some members to other political parties as a welcome development as it would afford younger members of the party to grow and occupy political offices.

Also speaking, former Secretary to the Plateau State Government during the administration of former Governor Jonah Jang, Nde Jiduana Dimka said Plateau State is the home of the PDP, adding that the DNA of the PDP is rooted in the state. He stated that the party is ready to take over the State leadership from the ruling APC in the state.
