OSMC Warns Against Election Violence

The Osun State Muslim Community has warned politicians in the state and their supporters against actions capable of plunging the state into violence ahead of the 2026 Governorship elections.

The President of OSMC, Alhaji Mustafa Olawuyi, gave the warning in a press statement made available to newsmen by OSMC Public Relations Officer, Prince Hameed Oyegbade, in Osogbo.

Olawuyi appealed to politicians in the state to conduct themselves in a peaceful and orderly manner before, during and after the August 15 Governorship election in the state.

The OSMC President said the warning is against the backdrop of the recent allegations of vandalism of campaign billboards and other violent tendencies.

He charged candidates to compete with ideas and engage intellectually.

He expressed concern over what he described as the rising temperature of political tension in the state and urged politicians and their supporters to shun violence.

Olawuyi advised politicians in the state to prioritise selfless service to guard against conflict or confrontation. Olawuyi noted that the quest for power must not become a reason to destroy lives and destabilise the state.

The OSMC President called on security agencies to remain neutral, vigilant, and proactive in identifying and dealing with criminal elements in the state.

He urged residents, particularly the youths, not to allow themselves to be used as agents of violence by desperate politicians.
