Omokri Defends Air Peace Amid Criticism Over Flight Delay

Nigeria’s Ambassador Designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri has defended Air Peace following ongoing criticism over a delayed London-Lagos flight.

He urged Nigerians not to “de-market” the airline over what he described as an unavoidable incident.

In a statement on Saturday, Omokri said Nigerians must learn to protect indigenous brands.

omokri noted that operational disruptions such as bird strikes are global aviation challenges and not necessarily a result of negligence.

He cited industry data suggesting tens of thousands of bird strike incidents occur annually worldwide, stressing that such events can lead to delays beyond the airline’s control.

His comments come after Nollywood actress,  Funke Akindele publicly called out Air Peace over a prolonged delay on a London to Lagos flight, alleging poor communication from the airline.

Omokri maintained that while delays are inconvenient, they should be viewed within the context of broader aviation realities, adding that Air Peace remains a symbol of national pride flying Nigeria’s flag internationally.

He also referenced efforts by the administration of President Bola Tinubu to expand international routes for Nigerian airlines, urging citizens to show understanding and support for local carriers navigating operational challenges.
