Residents of Okanran and other Ogu-speaking communities in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State have raised concerns over recurring security challenges linked to a protracted land dispute, while calling on the state government and relevant authorities to intervene.
The communities, said to span dozens of settlements, noted that tensions have heightened following claims over a large expanse of land by individuals associated with the Akapo family.
The residents urged Governor Dapo Abiodun, security agencies, and the Federal Government to take urgent steps to prevent further breakdown of law and order.
According to community representatives, the dispute is rooted in long standing disagreements, including issues related to chieftaincy and land ownership.
They contended that interpretations of previous court rulings have contributed to conflicting claims, thereby fuelling tension in the area.
Some residents alleged that the contested land, estimated at over 1,000 hectares, is being claimed on the strength of documents, including a government gazette, the validity of which they have questioned. They called for a thorough and transparent review of all relevant records to clarify ownership
