Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has been honoured for his outstanding performance in repositioning the state.
Governor Oborevwori, at the weekend, won the Best Governor of the year in Urban Renewal at the 2025 Independent Awards.
Represented at the event by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, Oborevwori described the recognition as strong evidence of his administration’s achievements and the effectiveness of its development agenda.
Speaking to journalists after the ceremony, Onyeme noted that the governor has reshaped governance in Delta State since taking office in 2023, earning recognition as a leading figure in urban renewal.
He emphasised that the transformation across the state is both visible and impactful.
He pointed out that Delta State, one of the most urbanised in Nigeria, has experienced rapid infrastructural development, including multiple flyover projects in Ughelli, Warri, Effurun, and Enerhen Junction.
These projects, he said, have eased traffic congestion while improving the overall outlook of the cities.
Onyeme also revealed that about 300 kilometres of roads had been constructed within the past year, marking significant progress in addressing longstanding infrastructure challenges.
He added that such recognition from independent bodies reflects the administration’s measurable results, stressing that the awards would inspire the government to intensify efforts in delivering more benefits to the people.
Reaffirming the administration’s commitment, Onyeme stated that the government remains focused on serving the people and fulfilling its mandate, with a determination to achieve even greater results.
He further highlighted Governor Oborevwori’s dedication to service and his vision of leaving a lasting legacy, noting that the governor aims to set a benchmark for future administrations before completing his tenure.
