Obaseki Mourns As Ex-Edo Commissioner, Omokhodion Dies


Former Edo State Commissioner for Environment and Sustainability, Joshua Omokhodion, has reportedly passed away.

Omokhodion, a renowned architect, was appointed Commissioner for Environment and Sustainability by the immediate past governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, in September 2023 to November, 2024.

In a statement issued by Obaseki, he described the deceased as a down-to-earth, very loyal gentleman whose character reflected humility, integrity, and a genuine passion for service.

Obaseki said, “I am extremely bewildered to learn of the passing of Mr Joshua Omokhodion, a devoted public servant and former Commissioner for Environment under my administration as governor of Edo State.

“His demise is a profound loss to me personally, to his family, close associates and also to the people of Edo State, whom he served with unwavering commitment.

“Mr Omokhodion was a distinguished architect, he was down-to-earth and a very loyal gentleman whose character reflected humility, integrity, and a genuine passion for service. During his tenure, he brought diligence and purpose to his responsibilities, contributing meaningfully to environmental sustainability reforms and initiatives that improved the lives of many across the state.

“His work ethic, coupled with his zeal and dedication, earned him the respect of colleagues and constituents alike. He approached his duties with a quiet strength and resolve, always prioritising the welfare of the people and the sustainability of the environment. His legacy is one of service marked by sincerity and impactful action.

“Beyond his official role, he was known for his approachable nature and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life. He carried himself with grace and remained steadfast in his loyalty, making him not just a reliable team member but also a trusted friend to many.”

Continuing, Obaseki said, “At this difficult time, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, and I also sympathise deeply with his friends and the entire Edo State. We have lost a remarkable individual whose contributions will not be forgotten.

“May his soul rest in perfect peace, and may those he left behind find comfort in the enduring impact of his life and service. His memory will continue to inspire dedication, humility, and commitment in all who had the privilege of knowing him.”
