The United Nations (UN) Mixed Commission for the Nigeria-Cameroon and the Adamawa State Government has concluded arrangements for the demarcation of some villages along the border Areas.
This development was announced by the Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, shortly after the Adamawa State Boundary Committee sensitization engagement with stakeholders of the affected local governments of Madagali, Michika, Mubi-North and Mubi-South Local Government Councils.
Farauta explained that the UNMC would ensure the border communities with Cameroon are clearly demarcated and that development is brought to the villages.
She also emphasized that the state boundary committee’s sensitization engagement will ensure a peaceful coexistence with the affected border local government areas without necessary acrimony.
The Cameroon-Nigeria Mixed Commission is a United Nations (UN)-established body created to facilitate the peaceful implementation of the International Court of Justice judgment regarding the boundary dispute between Cameroon and Nigeria.
Briefing journalists shortly after the meeting in Mubi, Farauta said that the two countries have adopted a give-and-take formula.
She is hopeful of a peaceful, amicable demarcation exercise between the two nations, which have a long history of intermarriage, trade, and shared cultural values.
It would be recalled that the leaders of Nigeria and Cameroon established the commission in 2002 to serve as a critical mechanism for resolving territorial disagreements and promoting cooperation between the two nations.
