NDC Slashes Nomination Fees For Women, Youths, PWDs

Says women represent 50 per cent of voters

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced major concessions on its Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for women, youths and Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party said the move was aimed at deepening inclusion, promoting equal participation and removing financial barriers that often discourage capable Nigerians from seeking elective offices.

In a statement issued in Abuja and signed by the National Secretary of the party, Mr Ikenna Enekweizu, the NDC said all female aspirants contesting on the platform of the party would enjoy a 50 per cent discount on both the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms currently on sale.

The statement also approved a 50 per cent reduction for youths between the ages of 18 and 35, while Persons Living with Disabilities would pay only 25 per cent of the stipulated fees.

According to the party, the initiative reflects its commitment to creating equal opportunities for all Nigerians, including those in the Diaspora, to actively participate in the democratic process.

The statement read, “The fact that someone is young and may not be a money bag, or is disadvantaged by some physical disabilities, should not shut him or her out from contributing their quota to nation-building.”

The NDC noted that women continue to face cultural and systemic barriers that limit their participation in politics, stressing that deliberate affirmative measures are necessary to encourage broader representation in governance.

It warned that Nigeria risks weakening its democratic growth if women, who constitute nearly half of the country’s population, remain excluded from political leadership and decision-making processes.

The party further clarified that Presidential, Governorship and National Assembly nomination forms would be obtained at the NDC National Secretariat in Abuja, while forms for State House of Assembly positions would be available at the party’s various state offices across the country.
