The Northern Nigerian Election Monitoring Volunteers (NIMOV), Zamfara chapter, has commended political leaders in Zamfara State for demonstrating political maturity during the conduct of the rescheduled All Progressives Congress (APC) State Assembly primary elections for Maradun I and II constituencies held on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
The group noted that the peaceful atmosphere that characterised the exercise was a significant departure from the tension and political unrest that often trail party primaries in many parts of the country.
According to NIMOV, the orderly conduct of party supporters and stakeholders in Maradun reflected a growing awareness of democracy and a collective determination to protect the sanctity of the electoral process.
In a statement issued after monitoring the exercise, Dr Mu’azu Na’allah Moriki, State Coordinator of the NIMOV, said the maturity displayed by APC supporters throughout the primaries showed their loyalty, commitment, and confidence in the leadership of the party, particularly the Minister of State for Defence, Mohammed Bello Matawalle, and the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal.
The group further observed that despite alleged attempts by some political actors to disrupt the process through acts capable of triggering chaos, hooliganism, and violence, residents and party faithful in Maradun remained calm and politically responsible throughout the exercise.
According to the election monitoring body, people across all wards in the Local Government in massive numbers turned out massively to demonstrate solidarity and support for their preferred Assembly candidates in a peaceful and orderly manner, without rancour or violence.
NIMOV added that the successful conduct of the primaries has further strengthened public confidence in democratic participation in Zamfara State and could serve as a model for future political exercises across the state and beyond.
The group congratulated the winners and encouraged them to be magnanimous in victory.
