Lagos Gov’t Seals Balmoral Centre, Foodies Restaurant Over Wastewater Violations


The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office has sealed off the Balmoral Convention Centre in Victoria Island and Foodies Restaurant in Lekki Phase I over environmental violations involving improper wastewater disposal.

Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the enforcement action on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.

He cited indiscriminate discharge of untreated sewage into public drainage systems as reason for the seal off.

According to the agency, the Balmoral Convention Centre was shut down for pumping raw sewage into public drains and allowing wastewater to spill from a blocked sewage chamber, causing foul odour and public nuisance in Victoria Island.

Similarly, Foodies Restaurant, located at No. 32B Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase I, Eti-Osa, was sealed for discharging untreated wastewater containing large deposits of fats and oil into public drains.

The violations reportedly led to clogged drainage systems, environmental pollution, and persistent foul smells in the area, despite multiple warnings from authorities.

Officials warned that residents, businesses, and property managers must strictly adhere to proper wastewater management practices or face sanctions, including possible prosecution.
