Lagos Assembly Endorses Tinubu for Second Term, Urges

…Urges Nationwide Backing

Barely a month to the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries, the Lagos State House of Assembly has thrown its weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid, endorsing him for a second term in office and calling for broad national support.

New Telegraph reports that the endorsement followed a unanimous resolution reached during plenary on Tuesday after a motion was introduced by Hon. Ladi Ajomale, representing Oshodi/Isolo Constituency II.

While presenting the motion, Ajomale pointed to what he described as key achievements of the current administration over the past three years, stressing the need for continuity to sustain ongoing reforms.

He referenced policies such as the student loan scheme, the removal of fuel subsidy, and major infrastructure developments, including the Lagos Coastal Road.

The Deputy Leader of the House, Hon. Richard Kasumu, noted gains in Nigeria’s foreign reserves and trade balance, attributing them to current economic policies.

Other contributors, including Hon. Temitope Adedeji, commended efforts to strengthen local government autonomy, describing it as a boost for grassroots governance. Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu also praised reforms in the education sector, particularly the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), as well as the introduction of a consumer credit scheme.

Deputy Speaker Mojisola Meranda, in her remarks, acknowledged improvements in Nigeria’s global standing and ongoing development projects, while also pointing to progress in resolving issues related to passport processing.

Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa said the endorsement reflected the position of their constituents and expressed confidence in the President’s ability to sustain national development.

He also urged lawmakers to take the message of support to their constituencies as the House formally adopted the motion.
