Kaduna Christian worshippers Regain Freedom After Abduction

The Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, Kaduna State has confirmed the release of worshippers abducted in Kaduna State in February, bringing relief to families and the Christian community after months in captivity.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the diocesan chancellor, Rev. Fr. Jacob Shanet, the church stated that the freed victims have been reunited with their families and are receiving medical and psychosocial support.

“The victims were among nine people abducted on February 9, 2026. The incident also involved Catholic priest Rev. Fr. Nathaniel Asuwaye, whose release was announced by the diocese on May 12, 2026,” it stated.

The diocese described the release of the remaining abductees as a major relief for families, parishioners, and the wider Christian community in Southern Kaduna.

According to the statement, the freed victims are undergoing medical attention, emotional care, and other forms of support to aid their recovery and reintegration into society.

The diocese noted that healing from trauma required sustained pastoral accompaniment beyond physical freedom.

It called on the faithful and the public to continue praying for and standing in solidarity with the victims and their families, urging compassion, visits, and sustained support during the recovery process.

The Diocese of Kafanchan also appreciated individuals and communities who stood in solidarity throughout the ordeal, describing the development as a moment of thanksgiving and reflection.
