I Never Targeted Northern Traders, Beggars As Gov

The Peter Obi Media Office yesterday rejected the allegations that Peter Obi “repatriated” northerners or “targeted northern traders and beggars” when he was the governor of Anambra State. In a statement, the office described the allegations as “malicious falsehood” and “an unacceptable level of political manipulation”.

It said rather than the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the 2027 presidential poll embarking on ethnic cleansing, his government came up with a social rehabilitation program that benefited individuals from across the country.

The statement said: “The ongoing, baseless, and wholly malicious claims aimed at misrepresenting the governance record of Peter Obi, particularly concerning his interactions with individuals from Northern Nigeria during his time in office.

“It is regrettable, yet unsurprising, that political opponents—unable to confront Obi’s unmatched record of accountability, fiscal responsibility, and developmental progress— have once again resorted to the outdated and harmful tactics of ethnic and regional division.
